Located at the Highway 120 West entrance to Yosemite National Park, Rush Creek Lodge is just minutes away from two of Yosemite’s Giant Sequoia Groves and the lesser-traveled Hetch Hetchy region of the Park.  This year’s mild winter conditions mean more trails are wide open for spectacular, easy day hikes to locations usually only accessible by snowshoe this time of year.  And our guides are ready to help you discover all the best locations!

Winter is one of the most peaceful times of year in Yosemite when you often feel like you have the park all to yourself.  When the snow falls, hiking turns to snowshoeing, which means you now have the wonderful opportunity to treat yourself to a winter escape that can include anything from a spectacular snowshoe adventure among Giant Sequoias to an invigorating hike among Yosemite’s best waterfalls of the year, or a classic mountain lodge getaway complete with cozy fires, great meals, and hot tub sunsets.

Snowshoe Among Snow-bombing Giant Sequoias!

We’ve been having a ton of fun lately, snowshoeing among the Tuolumne and Merced Groves of Giant Sequoias.  When the sun comes out and warms up the snow along the treetops, you get to play “Dodge the Snow-bombs” along the trail, which has everyone laughing pretty much the entire way.

The Merced and Tuolumne Groves of Giant Sequoias are easily accessible just a few minutes’ drive from the lodge. You can bring your own snowshoes or rent them from us.  Either way, our friendly Recreation team is here to help you find the way, whether you’d like to explore on your own or try one of our entertaining and informative professionally guided adventures.

Stroll Like a Local in Yosemite’s Hetch Hetchy Hideaway

If you’re looking for a more leisurely walk through the park, the Hetch Hetchy hike to Wapama Falls is a local favorite for those who prefer a crowd-free Yosemite. Hetch Hetchy is a lesser-known, lesser-traveled section of Yosemite National Park, and is a High Country counterpart to the more famous Yosemite Valley.  This season you’ll be amazed by the display of waterfalls and waterways spilling out of the granite cliffs and into the reservoir, creating an astonishing array of living colors and textures along the way.

After a satisfying day hiking Hetch Hetchy, you drive right through our sister property, the Evergreen Lodge, where everyone loves to stop for a break at the historic Tavern.  They serve an impressive selection of craft beers, signature cocktails (and mocktails), and fine wines by the glass (or bottle). It’s a warm, inviting environment filled with loving history that you won’t want to miss.

Back at Rush Creek

Back at Rush Creek Lodge, some guests prefer to take it easy by the fire in our cozy Guest Lounge, play around in our Game Room, or hang out and keep an eye on sports on the big screens in Rush Creek’s Tavern.

Our heated saltwater pool and hot tubs are open year-round unless of course, Mother Nature tells us otherwise.  Watching the sunset from the comfort of our saltwater hot tubs is fast becoming a guest favorite!

Don’t forget our daily activities, including everything from our nightly tradition of roasting s’mores by the outdoor fire, to craft beer tasting, to our incredible Wellness Program that includes dozens of therapeutic treatments and a variety of Yoga.
